Uganda
Uganda is known as the ‘Pearl of Africa’ and is one of the continent’s most biodiverse safari destinations. The country is home to approximately half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, found deep within the misty forests of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Uganda is also the best place in Africa for chimpanzee tracking, with Kibale Forest National Park home to the highest concentration of primates anywhere on Earth.
Beyond its remarkable primate encounters, Uganda offers classic Big Five safari experiences in Queen Elizabeth and Murchison Falls National Parks, where lions, elephants, buffalo and leopards roam vast savannahs alongside the dramatic backdrop of the River Nile. With over 1,000 bird species recorded, Uganda is also one of Africa’s premier birding destinations.
Best time to visit Uganda: The dry season between June and August offers the best conditions, with warm days, minimal rainfall and thinner vegetation making wildlife and primates easier to spot. Gorilla and chimpanzee treks are more comfortable with dry, accessible trails. December to February is a secondary dry season that is also excellent for visiting.
