Savuti Safari

Savuti is a region within Chobe National Park in Northern Botswana. The region is famous for its high density of predators, particularly lions. Savuti is home to two well-known lion prides: the Marsh Pride of the south and the Northern Pride.

Named after the mysterious Savuti channel which remains dry expect every once in a while when it fills up again, this region is characterised by rocky outcrops and a large flat plain in the south known as the marsh.

Savuti is my personal favourite safari location in the world. If you love predators, you’re going to fall in love like I did!

Quick Facts

Location: Savuti is located in the heart of Chobe National Park in northern Botswana, around a 4-hour drive south from the town of Kasane.

Best Time to Visit: The dry season between June and October when the weather isn’t too hot and there is minimal rainfall is the best time to visit. This is also the denning season for wild dogs and hyenas, making sightings of them easier.

Top Tip: Staying in the Savuti region rather than journeying here from outside of the area each morning really is a must. The most cost-effective way to stay is via a mobile camping safari as lodges don’t tailor to budget travellers. Don’t be fooled by the name though, mobile camping safaris are nothing like regular camping as the tents are huge with en suites and proper beds and a team takes care of everything.
