India
India is a destination like no other. Not only is it home to majority of the world’s tiger population, but it also houses snow leopards, one-horned rhinos and the world’s last Asiatic lions. India really has it all when it comes to habitats, from dense jungles to arid deserts, sprawling wetlands and the towering Himalayas in the north.
Safaris in India are vastly different to safaris in Africa. Typically, there are 2 designated slots for safaris, one in the morning and another in the early evening (although a small number of reserves allow exclusive full-day permits). Permits for these safaris can sell out months in advance, especially in popular tiger reserves, so it’s recommended to book your safari early.
Best time to go on safari in India: The best time to go on safari is in the dry season between November and May. Many reserves close their core zones in the monsoon season, making safaris at that time of year limited. December and January are the coolest time of year to visit whereas April is comparatively hot.
