The Hadzabe Hunter Gatherer Tribe
The Hadzabe are some of the world’s last hunter-gatherers and some of the most extraordinary people I have ever met.
I’ve visited the Hadzabe a few times now and each visit has been completely unique. You never know what you’ll fine with the tribe!
A visit usually involves meeting the tribe, learning about how they live and listening to traditional song and dance. There are opportunities to join the tribe for a hunt – just let my recommended tour operators know if this is of interest to you and they’ll gladly recommend this immersive experience. My recommended Tanzania tour operators can all offer this exclusive experience.
Quick Facts
Location: The Hadzabe live in the Lake Eyasi basin which is roughly 3 hours from Arusha. Lake Eyasi is conveniently located between Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro Crater, making it an ideal part of a larger Tanzania itinerary.
Best Time to Visit: June to October. This is the dry season, when the Hadzabe base themselves on flat land. As a result, they’re easier to locate and its easier to join them for hunts.
Top Tip: The Hadzabe are a huner-gatherer tribe, living off the land. Please keep an open mind when you visit them as they eat anything they can catch.
