Lake Naivasha Safari
If you’re looking for a break from game drives in a vehicle, look no further than Lake Naivasha. Offering something a little bit different, an excursion here allows you to take to the water in a motor boat before embarking on a walking safari on Crescent Island, which is unreachable by road.
The animals of Crescent Island have few predators and so are extremely relaxed in your company. Walk past zebras, giraffes, waterbucks and impalas.
The highlight of my Lake Naivasha safari was coming across a python. I’ve never seen a snake on safari before! He was definitely more scared of me than I was of him.
Quick Facts
Location: Lake Naivasha is a mere 3 hour drive north from Nairobi so makes the perfect start or end to a safari. It’s also only 1 hour away from Lake Nakuru National Park, making a visit to both extremely efficient.
Best Time to Visit: Visit in the dry season between June and October for the best weather. Visiting Lake Naivasha involves being outdoors and so you probably don’t want to get rained on.
Top Tip: A walking safari on Crescent Island takes a couple of hours and there’s little shade. Bring plenty of water, suncream and wear a sunhat.
